Review and Predictions of Episode 60 of Empress of China
I’m all caught up with Empress of China (although my recaps are lagging – they come out with three episodes at one time! So I can’t be blamed). And the trailer for Episode 60 just came out and I can’t even. I CAN’T EVEN.
***** SPOILERS BELOW *******
So apparently (from what’s shown in the spoilers), RuYi (now MeiNiang), was so sad after the Emperor’s death that when Li Zhi was comforting her, they slept together. It’s been made clear that Li Zhi has liked her all along for so long, but for her, isn’t that a little weird?! I mean nevermind that you are technically his stepmom, you’ve treated him like a little brother all along. Now that the man that you’ve loved for so long has died, you bang his son?!! I mean, I know this is what happens in history, but in history, Wu MeiNiang was not favoured by the Emperor at all, and Wu MeiNiang had always had a thing more for his son, so it makes sense that she would willingly become Li Zhi’s concubine afterwards.
But what it looks like is that the Emperor just died, and she, out of sadness, sleeps with Li Zhi. I just can’t even. I’d rather they fall in love progressively or something, but maybe it’s the unrealistic drama-romantic inside of me.
Anyways now she’s pregnant with Li Zhi’s child. Li Zhi is so handsome and good looking – he reminds me of a skinny Lee Hom (his real name is Li Zhi Ting btw). But because the Emperor’s dead, all his wives that haven’t given birth to to a child must go to a covent and be a nun, and so she has to shave her head to be a nun. Mei Niang hasn’t been with the Emperor in so long (they were separated for at least a year) that now that she’s pregnant she has to keep it a secret because it’s so blasphemous that she banged her stepson, and also the people at the covent will probably make her abort it. So she runs away.
I can’t believe it’s so far from history. I had a glimmer of hope that it’s going to have a romantic story bit in it between Mei Niang and Li Zhi because it seems like that they have so much more chemistry, and Li Zhi is so handsome, but I think that it’s going to be one of those complicated dramas where its full of struggle and tragedy. ERGH tomorrow please come faster!

I think when she’s crying and mourning about the Emperor in Cheng Qing Dian, and her and him embrace, that’s when they slept together, because they didn’t see each other afterwards until she announced that she was pregnant with his child

They actually did not sleep together until the moment when mei niang runs to li zhi. Hunan TV original script is make it li shi min’s. But that is not part of the real history so they change it to li zhi’s. Which still in fact is not part of history. It does not make sense for her to have sex with li zhi considering she is faithful. I think their first intimidate encounter is in episode 71. There are flaws in the script, but I will just stick to her being pregnant with li shi min’s baby cos that would make much more sense.
