TWO JAM-PACKED EPISODES

These two episodes have been so eventful – if the drama was a ship, these two episodes were definitely a big wave that pushed the ship forwards.

I’ll just quickly summarize – pretty much in these two episodes, Cai Hong finally confirms – like completely confirms that both Shao Tian and Jiang Yu did not kill her dad. With that out of the way (and they can stop antagonizing each other), they’ve moved the focus on Lu Man, and Jiang Yu and Cai Hong’s relationship problems.

Here are some highlights of the past two episodes:

Shao Tian refuses to speak during his testimony during court or address any questions – therefore, he is sentenced to death for stealing Ling Long’s money, and for the murder of Wu Hong Da.

Meanwhile Lu Man is in the same witness room as Bookkeeper Cai. They’re both at the courthouse for testifying against Shao Tian. Bookkeeper Cai is at the courtroom to testify that Shao Tian colluded with him to steal the money, and Lu Man was there to testify that that Shao Tian had founded Rong Da with his own money, and asked for her to supply a brand new golden pen for Shao Tian to avert suspicion in his involvement with Wu Hong Da’s death.

As Lu Man has confirmed that Shao Tian does not have the secret method, and Jiang Yu does not have the secret method (because he was tortured and still did not give it up), so Lu Man concludes that the secret method must be on Bookkeeper Cai.

She decides to kidnap Bookkeeper Cai while they are both in the witness room together.

Meanwhile, Shao Tian’s mom goes to find Cai Hong. She pleads for Cai Hong to believe in Shao Tian, and tells her Shao Tian’s story.

Shao Tian indeed has a grudge against Wu Hong Da. When his mom lost her job at the factory as well as hundreds of other workers, and their lives turned upside down, he was living the luxurious life. Shao Tian’s mom says that Shao Tian intentionally went into Ling Long to seek revenge on Wu Hong Da by stealing his money, to give Wu Hong Da a taste of what poor tastes like.

Shao Tian’s mom insists that Shao Tian has the capability to steal, but he would never take another man’s life.

She also revealed that Shao Tian is only so jaded because he had witnessed his own mom kill his own father just because they could not afford medicine.

Cai Hong meets up with Jiang Yu and tells him her feelings.

She reveals that she does not think that Shao Tian could’ve murdered her father, and that she feels horrible for all the pain that her father has caused.

Jiang Yu also agrees that he no longer thinks that Shao Tian is the murderer, because of the sketchy disappearance of Bookkeeper Cai – he now thinks that the murderer is someone else.

So, with this conclusion, Jiang Yu and Cai Hong make like Batman and Robin and decide to investigate further by interrogating Shao Tian.

Jiang Yu starts with the basic question that everyone has been asking Shao Tian all along – “Did you murder Wu Hong Da?”

Shao Tian replies with “I’ll be honest with you, if you’re completely honest with me. Do you have the secret method in its entirety?”

In which Jiang Yu replies, “Yes“. To which I’m like, wait, hold up.

What.

Jiang Yu said that he received the incomplete version from Wu Hong Da – and this was the version that was supposed to be handed down to him when he was 18. The last step that was transferred by word of mouth, was passed on to him very early on.

So why did he have to burn the original version if it was missing the last step anyways? What did he recreate on a new piece of paper?

And finally, stupid stupid Shao Tian finally reveals that he didn’t kill Wu Hong Da even though he had wounded him with a pen.

What had happened was that Wu Hong Da found out about the stolen money, and Shao Tian had wounded him with a pen in order to stop him from calling the police. Bookkeeper Cai was his alibi, because right after the attack, he left with Bookkeeper Cai, and they were debating whether to just leave town with the money before Wu Hong Da could call the police. Which brings me to the second ‘what?’.

Like… why didn’t you say something earlier? Especially when Bookkeeper Cai was testifying against you for colluding to steal money, why didn’t you suggest that Bookkeeper Cai to be also a key witness to be your alibi during Wu Hong Da’s death? Were you so petty that you decided to remain silent and stare at your crush the whole time instead of speaking up against your own death penalty?

And why didn’t Bookkeeper Cai say anything? He couldn’t have possibly not known that Shao Tian was being tried for murder too – why didn’t he defend him?!

Jiang Yu and Shao Tian concluded that the person that has Bookkeeper Cai is Lu Man, since she’s the only one with the power to kidnap a person within the courthouse, and also that she’s the only one that wants the secret method.

Bookkeeper Cai is the only one that can keep Shao Tian from receiving the death penalty in a few days, so Jiang Yu and Cai Hong responds to this f*ckery (ok fine, utter nonsense) by trying to lure Lu Man in revealing his whereabouts. The normal response to realizing that they needed to find Bookkeeper Cai to clear Shao Tian’s name is asking Shao Tian “Why didn’t you say something in the first place during the trial?”.

Jiang Yu approaches Ma Li to ask him to help trap Lu Man, by going to her and saying that he knows the whereabouts of the secret method – Bookkeeper Cai’s wife.

Meanwhile, Jiang Yu and Cai Hong work together to create beautiful fabric from the secret method. They planned to plant this with Bookkeeper Cai’s wife in order to really trap Lu Man into thinking that Bookkeeper Cai’s wife had the secret method.

Cai Hong refers to the fabric and exclaims “It’s so beautiful!”, and Jiang Yu stares at her admiringly and says “So beautiful”.

My heart literally melted into goo during that scene because Jiang Yu was so cute.

Cai Hong asks if there will ever be a chance where the revenge between the two families will cease to exist, and Jiang Yu starts with “I will try my best…” and he trails off into saying “… in finding Bookkeeper Cai”, and walks away from her.

Meanwhile, Ma Li has convinced Lu Man to believe that Bookkeeper Cai’s wife has the secret method.

Lu Man’s people follow both Jiang Yu and Cai Hong.

Cai Hong puts on a show for them by inviting out Bookkeeper Cai’s wife and pleading for her to hand over the secret method.

Jiang Yu and Cai Hong act as a tag team – now that Cai Hong has completed this task, it was up to Jiang Yu to convince Lu Man by separately heading to Bookkeeper Cai’s wife’s house. 

Jiang Yu, though obviously caring and helpful towards Cai Hong, still acts coldly towards her. Before he leaves, Cai Hong thanks him for helping her even though she’s put him through so much (ahem I’m glad you know!) and that he’s still recovering from his injuries.

Jiang Yu refuses to show his gentle side, and reassures her that he’s ok.

Lu Man is completely hooked after finding out that Cai Hong went to find Bookkeeper Cai’s wife – so she decides to head to her house and find Bookkeeper Cai’s wife herself.

And I’m sorry that there isn’t a better name for Bookkeeper Cai’s wife because in the drama she doesn’t have a name, she’s literally only know as his wife, so it’s the only way I could make it clear.

Meanwhile Jiang Yu is expecting Lu Man (which ok, is a very faulty plan that could go awry in many ways, but drama). Jiang Yu instructs Bookkeeper Cai’s wife to put away the fabric, and only to take it out when Lu Man was there.

Jiang Yu intentionally stages the conversation into leading Lu Man into thinking that Bookkeeper Cai’s wife is hiding the secret method, and makes the wife look very suspicious and sketchy.

Lu Man waits for Jiang Yu to leave before approaching Bookkeeper Cai’s wife to reveal Bookkeeper Cai’s shirt button. Lu Man demands for the secret method in return for Bookkeeper Cai’s safety.

His wife agrees immediately, but demands that she will only give it for the immediate release of Bookkeeper Cai in front of her. Lu Man agrees, and sets a time up at night to arrange a meeting for his wife and Bookkeeper Cai.

The wife is lead to Bookkeeper Cai later on that night to find him beat up. The fei police chief have trailed the wife to this location.

Lu Man’s people threaten to kill Bookkeeper Cai and his wife on the spot if they don’t give up the secret method – and this is where his wife reveals that she doesn’t even have the method.

At this moment the police finally show up and they start shooting against Lu Man’s men.

At this moment, the genius wife of Bookkeeper Cai decides undo Bookkeeper Cai’s ropes – which is understandable, because it’s better to stay low instead of flying bullets, obviously literally nobody in this drama reasons by logic, she runs through the crossfire with Bookkeeper Cai.

And so, as it would be, Bookkeeper Cai and his wife are shot by the bullets in the crossfire. You see that small light-purple mass in the picture above? That’s the wife, shot to death. The fei police chief literally only picked up Bookkeeper Cai and helped him run to safety and left the wife to die LOL.

The fei-ness (uselessness) of the police chief is exemplified once again when he runs away from this criminals.

In literally every show that I’ve watched with police officers, they’re the ones that stay on scene while the criminals run away. OK, let’s just assume the best and that there is probably a swat team outside waiting to capture these bad guys.

Literally from here onwards no one asks about Bookkeeper Cai’s wife.

Cai Hong and Jiang Yu sit next to Bookkeeper Cai, begging him to wake up before Shao Tian’s execution – except no one acknowledges the fact that Bookkeeper Cai’s wife is dead. Like they literally used her to find Bookkeeper Cai and actually didn’t care much at all for her wellbeing. LOL c’mon guys.

The time of Shao Tian’s execution is nearing, and Jiang Yu does everything he can to try to stall it – he even calls Sergeant Li to ask him to postpone.

Obviously Sergeant Li is like “Um, no” because he’s a man of the law, and he can’t just twist things to his pleasing. Meanwhile Cai Hong goes to spend Shao Tian’s last hours with him. 

OBVIOUSLY BOOKKEEPER CAI SHOWS UP IN TIME TO PROVE SHAO TIAN’S INNOCENCE. The poor sick man is brought to the execution site and he speaks up to prove that he is Shao Tian’s alibi. This is probably the last time we’ll ever see this character (and thank god, since Bookkeeper Cai’s name is such a hassle to type) I just have two rhetorical questions for him:

1) Do you know your wife is dead just so you can save Shao Tian? Literally, just a few episodes ago, you were willing to spend life in prison by taking the responsibility of stealing money just so your wife and kids would be safe.

2) WHY DID YOU NOT SAY ANYTHING EARLIER?!

Lu Man finds out that Bookkeeper Cai has awoken and has saved Shao Tian from execution. Now they have somewhat of evidence that Lu Man was involved in kidnapping. The episode ends with Lu Man sadly saying that she must now go have a ‘date’ with General Lu, aka being his escort for a bit, in order for General Lu to save her.

This was such a packed two episodes – 2000 word post :O. Anyways, I woke up this morning and this drama apparently came to an end at 35 episodes? I thought that it was 50 episodes? It’s not confirmed yet, and I haven’t watched until there, so we shall see what happens while I catch up. I’m so excited to get started on Journey of the Flower (Hua Qian Gu). I did notice a lot of other places are doing recaps on it already so I probably will only do highlights and commentaries on this drama since other sites are doing such better jobs at giving detailed recaps.
