Dis gonna be a long summary since my procrastination but I’m too lazy to split up this into two posts. Mostly commentary.

So Li Min Feng gets a scroll of what the real princess looks like. I mean I get it, it’s not like the Facebook/Google era where we can look someone up but like … how do you even get your hands on that??? And how do you even get your hands on it? Do you paint a portrait of yourself every year? And do you hang it up?

Anyways Li Chang Le and Li Ming Feng move at a glacial pace at unscrolling the picture.

And yes obviously WeiYoung is there while they do this. Anyways, WeiYoung tries to take a grab for it before they see the face, so the siblings roll it up and decide to see it at a later time.

Meanwhile Li Min Feng seduces Zi Yan.

Like even THAT’S too forward in 2016.

Anyways WeiYoung goes to steal the picture, and dumps paint all over the face. Obviously, the little birthmark on the left arm of the scroll coincided with WeiYoung’s birthmark. She almost gets caught except that her old servant (from her princess days) randomly shows up to protect her because, drama. The servant, Jun Tao, helps her escape out of Li Min Feng’s room, and they both go back to WeiYoung’s room.

Anyways, they find Jun Tao in WeiYoung’s room (because of Zi Yan tipping them off) but she manages to escape by pretending to hold WeiYoung hostage.

SO this leads to Wei Young leaving her home and checking up on Jun Tao since she got hurt, but on her way there sees Tuo Ba Jun addressing the poverty issue at an outside village, and how some corrupt statesmen have pretty much ruined it for the villagers.

Because Zi Yan is a freaking snake she notifies Li Chang Le of Wei Young’s departure from the home, and her whereabouts. Li Chang Le follows, and assumes that Wei Young meeting Tuo Ba Jun is the purpose of her trip, and she gets super jealous. Wei Young sees how Tuo Ba Jun is trying to address the poverty issue and decides to (because you know, the female lead is ALWAYS so intelligent) write a way to address it. Zi Yan distracts her halfway, gets her to leave the room, and copies it for Li Chang Le.

MEANWHILE THERE IS A SEPARATE LOVE STORY BETWEEN LI MIN DE AND TUO BA DI. I am not a fan at this point (but I later will be) because the princess is really awful and bratty. I can’t stand watching young women act like they’re children and throw tantrums so I skipped over these parts. #sorrynotsorry

So they get back home, and Wei Young finds out that Li Chang Le has already given parts of the proposal (of addressing the poverty in the country) to the Emperor. And she’s super pissed finding out that Li Chang Le copied it.

So, a night where Crown Prince – Empress (Tai Zi Fei), Tuo Ba Jun, Tuo Ba Yu (Nan An Prince) comes to visit the Li family to celebrate Li Chang Le’s amazing proposal, the drama queen Wei Young suddenly appears out of nowhere and hijacks the whole dinner to tell the Crown Prince Empress that this proposal is a bad idea.

Li Chang Ru decides to beg with Wei Young. And Crown Prince Empress gets pissed because she loves Li Chang Le. After she leaves, Wei Young and Li Chang Ru get punished – they cut li Chang Ru’s hair (which is apparently a huge deal) and Wei Young blocks the scissors… with her back. Like honestly if you can do a starfish pose in front of someone to block scissors from cutting her hair, you can probably grab those scissors with your hands because they were moving REALLY SLOWLY ok??

*** Here is when the sequence of events gets messed up. So like how I differentiate and determine what happened is by the screenshots. Unfortunately WordPress did not upload it in sequence and since I don’t make enough money to put in an extra hour to try to sort them out, I’m just gonna tell you the SEVERAL EVENTS that may or may not be in chronological order that happens in the drama. Partially because I love you, but not enough. But don’t worry I’m a fantastic story teller (or a re-teller in this case) and you’ll get the gist of it if you’re not planning to watch the episodes. And believe me, it’s not really worth it.

So Li Min Feng decides to execute Li Chang Le’s proposal either way – even though Wei Young says that it’s bad. Wei Young says that it’s bad because she didn’t account for the corruption within the state officials initially so that’s why it wouldn’t work, but Li Min Feng goes for it anyways.

ANYWAYS long story short the plan ends up fucking up, and several people die.

So Wei Young ends up being consulting since she foresaw this happening.

The Li siblings are fucking relentless and end up trying to say that Wei Young stole THIS idea as well. Zi Yan tries to frame Wei Young again and agree with the siblings but luckily Wei Young had suspected Zi Yan and had intentionally did not give so much detail to her. This way, when she challenged the Li siblings to explain the plan in depth, they weren’t able to. Zi Yan gets confronted and blurts out the truth on the spot.

In this situation, Li Min Feng is in huge shit because of how he executed the plan before (and people died) and that he lied to the Emperor. He’s removed from being in a high-power position.

So Zi Yan is in huge trouble for being a snake. Luckily Wei Young doesn’t care, but Li Min Feng is pissed. The Emperor wants to execute her but ZI YAN IS PREGGOS!!!! Like c’mon aren’t y’all supposed to be extra reserved in the feudal times? So because Zi Yan is preggos, they take care of her on the surface at the Li family but end up beating her to death because Li Min Feng blames this all on her. So they beat Zi Yan to death.

During a celebration at the Li family’s house (to which all the princes attend because they all have a Li girl in mind), Zi Yan’s body floats up the family pond. There it comes out that GASP Li Min Feng murdered his wife and unborn child and he gets in deeper shit. He hits rock bottom.

Li Min Feng gets exiled away, and Jun Tao finds this opportunity to murder his ass.

Anyways funny thing (that doesn’t contribute to the plot), Tuo Ba Jun visits the Li family in their time of morning because Li Min Feng is dead (and to see Wei Young), and Li Chang Le was ‘mourning’.

But upon finding out that Tuo Ba Jun was there she DOLLS UP and starts serenading him which is like… yo your brother LITERALLY JUST GOT ASSASSINATED. But there are some hella thirsty girls in this drama (more to dis later).

Anyways, they start to suspect that Wei Young isn’t the real Wei Young and confronts her with a girl that looks like the REAL (real Wei Young). Does that make sense? Essentially the girl on the right is like the girl that we’ve seen in the beginning of drama, and she actually shows up to the Li family household to try to reassert her position.

Luckily mama Li got our girl’s back, and recognizes both girls are not her daughters but picks OUR GIRL and defends her, and says that her daughter has a birthmark on her arm, to confirm that OUR GIRL is her daughter.

So Wei Young realizes Mama Li knew she wasn’t the real deal all along, since she realized she noticed the birth mark. She tells mama Li the truth and that the real Wei Young is dead, and that she’s an impersonator. Mama Li recognizes that she’s an honest and good person to her, and accepts her as a daughter.

SO THIS. THIS IS THE THING THAT I WANT TO POINT OUT FOR THE ENTIRE DRAMA.

LIKE THIS PART IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS DRAMA/POST.

So how they managed to come up with the second fake Wei Young (that looks EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE ORIGINAL ONE) is through “yi-rong shu” which roughly translates into face-changing art. Now I do my fair share of face-changing art when I cake up my face everyday.

I’m so happy that make-up was invented in in this era or else I’d be preaching about inner beauty all the time on this blog. I literally make my face look like another face.

Turns out Hong Luo, one of Chi Yun Nan’s loyal followers is skilled in CHANGING HER FACE. Keep in mind Hong Luo has NEVER SEEN the real original Wei Young and this is all by other people’s description. Which begs the question: what the flying fuck? Like even professional sketch artists can’t do that.

And my second question is that Hong Luo has magic Mystique X-Men like capabilities to LOOK EXACTLY LIKE WHOEVER SHE WANTS. How has she not taken over the world??? Why is she a lowly servant?? She could imitate the Empress. She could imitate the Emperor. She could really take over the world. How is her imagination not running wild?

Anyways – blah blah blah love story line between Li Min De and Tuo Ba Di. Not a fan.

 

Chi Yun Ruo does something insane where she poisons herself in order to frame Wei Young that she poisoned her.

Wei Young is imprisoned because of these accusations. Meanwhile Li Chang Le tortures Wei Young and finds a men’s fan in her jewelry box. Wei Young lies and says that it’s from an old lover back in her village.

Li Chang Le takes this opportunity to bring the fan to Tuo Ba Jun, not knowing that he is the real owner of the fan and tries to make her look like a big ho.

Tuo Ba Jun is delighted because if she keeps your fan, then apparently she likes you. But he becomes suspicious on how Li Chang Le got ahold of this fan and visits the Li family household.

Tuo Ba Jun manages to save her just before Chi Yun Ruo’s people execute her because we’re only halfway through the drama and we can’t be without a female lead.

Even though Tuo Ba Jun has expressed love and interest towards Wei Young, she rejects him coldly because his fam/grandfather pretty much killed off her fam.

…Even though she also loves him dearly.

This is off topic but AT WHAT AGE DOES THIS BECOME UNACCEPTABLE TO DO TO YOUR MOTHER?! Like… I would not find myself being comfortable with my boyfriend doing this to his mother.

Meanwhile I just want to say whoever is doing Li Chang Le (real name Li Xin Ai)’s make up should be fired. She is so … unattractive (I wouldn’t say ugly) in this drama but in normal modern clothes she looks fantastic.

Like she looks like a mix of Angelababy, Yang Mi, and Cecilia Cheung. She’s so pretty!!! Like yes obviously she’s got a lot of stuff done on her face (you can just tell) but she’s still very pretty. I don’t know how they got her to look so… plain!

Jokes on Chi Yun Ruo, she remains pretty sick after poisoning herself. Li Chang Ru comes along and starts shit and puts the blame on Li Min De’s mom for Zi Yan’s body floating upstream.

Turns out Li Min De is the prince of Ruo Ran. So he’s royalty. We’ve always known that he’s adopted but… apparently he’s royalty. Which is pretty ridiculous.

You’re royalty, you’re royalty, EVERYONE IS ROYALTY!

But no seriously. Wei Young is princess of Bei Liang. Li Min De is prince of Ruo Ran. Tuo Ba Jun and Tuo Ba Yu are both princes of Wei. C’mon.

This is a super small part of the plot where Li Chang Ru gets to dance in front of the Empress, and Li Chang Le is pissed and cuts up her dress.

Anyways Li Wei  Young and the unimportant Li-girl of the family (no seriously I forgot her name) work together to get rid of Li Chang Le. They do this by having unimportant Li girl convince Li Chang Le to have this concotion that’s supposed to be really good for her.

Anyways, Papa Li is getting sick, and Li Chang Le tries to offer this concotion to try to make him better.

Too bad it’s a trap and she’s actually poisoning her dad.

So how Wei Young shaped the argument was that since they framed her for trying to poison Chi Yun Ruo, they’re stepping it up to try to poison Papa Li. They really caught her in the lie, and Li Chang Le accidentally wounds her dad in trying to kill Wei Young so Papa Li exiles her. Chi Yun Ruo faints in horror.

Pretty much she’s sent to a village to be a servant and gets treated like crap.

Yes.

Anyways Chi Yun Ruo kills off Li Min De’s mom since she thinks that she was behind Zi Yan’s body appearing out of no where. She kills her off by getting her sick with some disease.

Chi Yun Ruo is still really sick. Her side of the family come to rescue her (the Chi Yun family is super powerful) so she departs from the Li family and gets better care from the Chi Yun family.

Papa Li’s like ok. That’s fine. Just go.

Meanwhile Li Chang Le’s still being tortured.

Anyways so like Wei Young coincidentally sees people of Bei Liang as slaves. So she manages to be able to leave her home to check in on her people.

Which begs two question: how does she leave her house so easily – I thought these super wealthy girls are always guarded? Two – how does she get to a rural area so undetected – like did she just walk there?? Are there no guards?? Did she need to take a horse? Like… questions.

Long story short, the Bei Liang slaves pretty much need to die because Tuo Ba Han uses them to uncover a silver mine, and in order to get that all for himself and keep it a secret, he needs to kill the slaves.

The slaves rebel and manage to hold Tuo Ba Jun hostage, which works in Tuo Ba Han’s favor because if the rebels die, Tuo Ba Jun dies, he gets the silver mine and a better shot at being crown prince.

Spock eyebrows.

SO Jun Tao eaves drop on their convo and finds out all of this, and tells Wei Young.

They devise a plan and give Tuo Ba Han the impression that someone already knows about the silver mine, and so that Tuo Ba Jun cannot die.

So he ends up making an agreement so that the Bei Liang slaves get to go, and Tuo Ba Jun is released by them.

… except that Chi Yun Nan appears out of nowhere and kills them. This is because he’s still trying to find the incriminating scroll from General Ma.

Meanwhile it’s a day without drinking water and Li Chang Le’s lips are already chapped as hell.

Long story short AGAIN (like who needs details?) Li Chang Le gets rescued from being exiled by Chi Yun Nan, but not before she gets treated like absolute crap. And she becomes even more evil. After arriving home, she pretty much announces to her mom that she will never be as naive and soft again.

Blah blah love story between Tuo Ba Di and Li Min De. #reallydonotcare #zerofucksgiven

Anyways, the royals go hunting and everyone important is invited. And Li Chang Le is BACK and as evil as ever.

She lies to the Crown Prince Empress that it was ALL Wei Young’s fault, and the Crown Prince Empress believes her.

Wei Young actually participates in the hunting because whoever hunts the most prey gets to ask something from the Emperor (and she wants to free all the Bei Liang slaves and prove her father’s innocence).

I took so many screenshots because she looked SO GOOD and she looks so much better than her normal get-up. Also she looks a little bit like Janice Man.

Anyways Chi Yun Nan sees one of the Bei Liang slaves near the hunting grounds. Turns out it’s Jun Tao’s dad, and one of Wei Young’s close guards when she was still a princess. Luckily, he handed the scroll from General Ma to Wei Young before he got caught.

Um SO this is pretty ridiculous so let’s speed through this.

So Tuo Ba Han sets up traps to try to kill Tuo Ba Jun, and he manages to fall into one of the traps.

HE LITERALLY DODGES FLYING SNAKES. The CGI in this is fucking ridiculous. He gets bitten and passes out.

Back on the hunting grounds they notice that Tuo Ba Jun is missing and they go for a search for him.

Meanwhile Li Chang Le notices the trap (doesn’t notice Tuo Ba Jun inside it) and tricks Wei Young to fall into it as well.

She sucks out his poison and proceeds to chew up his medicine so she can spit it in his mouth (ok it’s a lot less gross in the drama but this is lterally what she does).

And somehow she passes out too.

Li Chang Le realizes when she trapped Wei Young she had dropped her hair clip… and upon returning, she sees that Wei Young escaping the hole (thanks to Li Min De). She realizes she saved Tuo Ba Jun and decides to jump into the hole and make it look like that she sucked out the poisonous blood and save him.

Anyways they had a big feast to celebrate Tuo Ba Jun being safe and all, but they only invited the men. So, Wei Young takes this as her last opportunity to speak to the Emperor so she dresses like one of the dancers and joins in the performance (how she manages to know the choreography is beyond me).

Chi Yun Nan sees Wei Young disrupt the performance (with a mask on) and he recognizes that she has the missing scroll from General Ma and is about to reveal his bad crimes, so he tries to make it look like an assassination to cause chaos.

Chi Yun Nan manages to get an arrow into Wei Young’s arm, and kills Jun Tao’s dad.

Anyways, Chi Yun Nan knows that Wei Young is fake and that she’s really the princess of Bei Liang. He goes to her sleeping quarters, knowing that she’s injured by the arrow except that she intentionally cuts herself to make the wound look like it wasn’t by an arrow. And also luckily, Chi Yun Nan sent an assassin to her living quarters and the assassin was caught so she blamed it on him.

As for the scroll… it ended up in Tuo Ba Yu’s hands amongst the chaos.

Anyways Chi Yun Nan tries to assassinate Wei Young again… but since again we’re halfway through the drama…

… she obviously survives it. Since Tuo Ba Jun appears out of nowhere to save her again.

Like seriously ^ she looks so awful in this drama but she’s actually so pretty in modern times. I think it’s because she’s not wearing circle lenses?

ANYWAYS, Wei Young and Tuo Ba Jun have fallen off the cliff, and she finally admits to him that she is a fake and why she can’t accept him.

“I am the princess of Bei Liang and your people killed my people”. She proceeds to run away.

In the middle of running away, she meets a bunch of Chi Yun Nan’s assassins again and voilaaaaa Tuo Ba Jun appears out of nowhere to save her again. Even though there’s like 10 guys against 2 people, he manages to save her in a ridiculous manner. I’m talking about catching arrows with his bare hands and shooting their arrow-guns with Wei Young in one arm. This was absolutely excruciating to watch so to convey that I took a lot of screenshots. Because if I had to sit through it, you do too.

Absolutely… excruciating.

They find a place to live (magically these all just appear out of nowhere) and they somehow light all these candles (even though it appears to be incredibly unnecessary to have all those candles, and that it’s a fire hazard).

Li Chang Ru professes her love and throws herself onto Tuo Ba Yu.

Li Chang Le goes to the Crown Prince Empress Tai Zi Fei nearly daily to ‘pray’ for Tuo Ba Jun to gain her liking.

UM so now Wei Young have resolved everything with Tuo Ba Jun and now are madly in love. At this point I am usually very susceptible to swooning over the OTP couple but for some reason I do not feel anything. I wonder if it’s because I’m getting old and I’m throwing too many eyerolls out or I just don’t like either of the characters.

But like it’s sickening.

LIKE… Isn’t this too forward for feudal times??? They couldn’t even hold hands back then. Or show leg. OR arm.

Jun Tao finds them and they are safely delivered back.

Two things: one, has anyone noticed that Tuo Ba Jun has extremely dark and purple lips??? And secondly Li Chang Le’s makeup artist always applies on fake eyelashes that are too long for her eyes and it makes her eyes look so freaking weird.

I tried to capture a close up but this is the best that I could get.

^Also I really love Wei Young’s hair here. Sadly they only do it once in the drama, but I love when they make little flowers out of pink quartz and put it in hair. It’s so pretty.

Crown Prince Empress gets sick. Das it.

Chi Yun Nan has one last shot at getting rid of Wei Young… by MARRYING HER OFF to a different country! The other country is kind of getting restless at the border so they decide the best way to settle it is to marry a ‘princess’ off… where they just give Wei Young a princess title. Yes it’s that easy.

The thing is, because the relations between Wei and the other country are so bad that war is inevitable, and Wei Young is definitely going to die. So everyone is choked.

Tuo Ba Jun protests through walking through a military demonstration to beg the Emperor not to marry Wei Young off.

As you can see, the arrows fly by him – I even had to intentionally rewind it back to record this ridiculousness. But he is super useless lor he kneels down in front of the Emperor at the same place and manages to get sick and bed ridden.

“Why is my lover so useless”

Anyways Wei Young is delivered to the border by Tuo Ba Yu and is to be married off.

So 4000 words later I have really no energy to write review on it. I’m just not feeling it. I mean… I like Tiffany Tang. And the male lead isn’t bad either, but I’m not really feeling their chemistry right now so I’m not that invested. I’m more invested in the things that will happen to the Li sisters because I just want something bad to happen to them. I hate them but I love them at the same time because they give me a reason to watch it because they make things so interesting. I just keep watching and hope that bad karma gets to them. ANYWAYS this drama is officially over by now… and my next post will be 33 to 55. I’m guessing… it will be another 4000 word post.
