FAN BING BING REVEALS THAT SHE’S DATING LI MU!!!
Since episode five and six (and onwards) are all small events on how Cai Hong is special and how she keeps accusing Jiang Yu of murdering her dad, I really couldn’t think of a header title, except of the news that I learned today!
Today, our beautiful Empress went public with her relationship with Li Chen – aka Li Mu in Empress of China!!! Omfg. Has our alpha female finally found her alpha male?!
Here they are, if you’ve forgotten who they were.
Anyways, back to The Cage of Love. Since I’ve gotten comments about this before, I wanted to clarify something: I want to give a small disclaimer for those that are actually looking for detailed events in a drama recap because I realize when I feel indifferent about a drama, I’m a lot more brief about the events that happened, and I’m more review over recap. I feel really indifferent about The Cage of Love, so if you’re looking to have a detailed recap, my posts probably won’t fit your standards – maybe wait and watched the subbed version?
Onwards!
We carry on from where we left off in the last episode, where Cai Hong passed out from kneeling all day. Shao Tian takes her home, and takes care of her.
Kathy Chow, playing Cai Hong’s stepmother, disapproves of their relationship now that the Wu family has no money, and wishes for Cai Hong to aim to hang out with richer men, and marry rich.
Lu man has moved on to Shao Tian figure out the ‘secret method’ in preparing fabric. And holy crap – this actress has got too much stuff going on her face.
I mean her profile isn’t even natural anymore – look at her chin – it looks so obviously sharpened and injected. I question this actress’s overall life outfit choices too:
That is not photoshopped. She actually wore something like that. I find it so inappropriate and it says a lot about the classiness of an actress. You can Google Image her 刘雨欣.
Since the fabric dye was ruined by that worker in the previous episode, Jiang Yu and Fei Fei had to look for a key and expensive ingredient to create a new dye. Fei Fei had a lead in another city – it was this old lady who grew beautiful fields of roses but she never sold them. Fei Fei and Jiang Yu kept approaching the lady and they kept getting rejected.
It’s time for another round of… “Why our female lead is so amazing” again! Obviously, Cai Hong requests to take a shot at it, and Jiang Yu rolls his eyes and expects her to fail, but we all know how this unfolds.
The old lady is touched by Cai Hong’s sincerity, as Cai Hong promised to take care of the rose fields long after the old lady’s death, since the old lady grows it for her deceased daughter.
Obviously Jiang Yu is very impressed by this brilliant young woman…
… and falls in love with her more…
*cue corny scene where he stares at her admiringly*
The OTP cuteness screeches to a halt when Shao Tian shows up with woven roses to replace the real ones so that the old lady could use those as well for display. I don’t know why everyone thinks that Shao Tian is so good looking – I think he’s ok – Hawick is much better looking.
The last ship leaves… Cai Hong, Hawick, and Shao Tian are forced to stay overnight at this town. The old lady generously offers her place – Cai Hong in her daughter’s old room, and Shao Tian and Hawick in the guest room.
They have a semi-cute scene fighting over the bed. I really can’t wait until Shao Tian finds out that Jiang Yu was the person that gave him that dollar when they were young boys – he’ll probably think differently about him then.
Seriously who takes pictures like this of themselves LOL.
Lu Man tries to get Shao Tian to work for her, or to sell her the secret method, but fails. She also tries to seduce him but also fails miserably.
Cai Hong, who followed Jiang Yu around earlier on the episode (just didn’t include screencaps), stayed after hours just to see what Jiang Yu was hiding – thinking that it was information leading to her father’s death. It was a trap set up by Jiang Yu to teach Cai Hong a lesson.
Jiang Yu turns off all the lights and locks her in – and makes creepy noises outside the room. He appears to enjoy torturing Cai Hong for some strange reason – up until she starts crying and hoped for Shao Tian to come save her. He feels guilty in comparison for doing this to her, and lets her out.
At the same time Shao Tian shows up. This is because Shao Tian went looking for Cai Hong at her house, and her stepmom told him that she was still out. Worried, Shao Tian went looking for her in the factory, and found her here.
Sigh, we have another first male lead and second male lead standoff again over the female lead. So far we have had so many of these, it’s getting kind of redundant, but, drama.
Cai Hong decides to take a day off and go look for Bookkeeper Cai – who went missing after her father’s death, and is suspected to have done the altering in the finance bookkeeper and the loss of a large amount of money.
AT this point, it’s insinuated that Shao Tian is a sketchy person – you know – like lingering shots where they zoom in on his face for a reaction, etc. For myself, I suspect that he was the one that probably killed Wu Hong Da, since he actually conspired with Bookkeeper Cai to move the money.
To prevent Cai Hong from finding Bookkeeper Cai, he asks his friend to do him a favour, and take Cai Hong on a carriage to somewhere else instead.
Jiang Yu – who is the ultimate creep at this point – is eavesdropping onto her conversations and always checking up on her because he likes her. He goes on a horse and chases after her carriage to make sure she’s alright (and he looked so cool on that horse too).
Cai Hong realizes something was wrong with her carriage journey when the man taking her seemed to be inexperienced and lost, so she assumed that he was a thief and attacked him. She hurts her ankle in the process of running away and Jiang Yu shows up to save her in a kind of way.
I mean, it’s really cute in a way, but seriously, he can only get away with this because he’s so good looking. Imagine your abusive boss at work showing up everywhere you go to ‘take care of you’.
Obviously we get this OTP moment of Jiang Yu carrying Cai Hong.
We get yet another very cute corny OTP scene of the female lead falling and Jiang Yu catching her by the waist, and they look deeply in each other’s eyes. Argh – this scene was so nicely executed that I really wished that I liked the OTP more. They really have no chemistry together.
Finally, since they had to stay overnight, a search party was dispatched to find them. They finally found them in the morning.
Fei Fei was pissed, not only because she’s in love with him, but she witnesses changes in his behaviour and how much he cares for Cai Hong. I completely get it – Cai Hong has actually been very annoying with her accusations, and she’s just going to be a nuisance to keep by his side. Plus, she’s the daughter of the man that killed Papa Jiang – in every sense, falling and caring for Cai Hong is inappropriate.
Jiang Yu is reminded of this when Mama Jiang has a nervous breakdown from seeing Wu Hong Da’s picture in the news. It was a shattering moment for him, and he has a moment in his office where he really reassesses his relationship and attitude with Cai Hong.
Spoiler (not really): The plot drags on for 7 and 8 as well – I really wish that something dynamic or big would happen so that Cai Hong and Jiang Yu’s relationship would change. The accusations and revenge relationship is getting a little bit redundant.
