THE GAME CONTINUES

Sigh, Jin Xiu. What to even say about her? She repeatedly gets into traps and just responds with a wide-eyed dumb pout, and she treats the man that keeps saving her like crap. It’s only episode 9, and she’s already gotten into so many situations where people are just out to get her. If this continues I’m just going to make one huge recap titled ‘Episodes 9 – 46: Jin Xiu gets shafted, that’s it’.

From all this, she seems to have some sort of social impediment – like really everyone hates her everywhere she goes? Maybe to a certain point, it’s just her. I don’t think Jin Ling’s dislike for her is completely unreasonable actually – I would not be fond of her if she was a real person in my life either.

Jin Xiu gets hired by Mei Hua – the manager immediately dislikes her because of her misguided sense of responsibility. The characters this drama don’t reason by logic – somehow the manager hates Jin Xiu solely because her cousin didn’t get hired instead. Seriously?

Somehow Jin Xiu is hated already by her direct supervisor, Yao Jie and she’s assigned what seems to be an unreasonable amount of work.

There is literally no rhyme or reason why these women are all mean to Jin Xiu – somehow women are always portrayed either to be sweet and naive, or bitchy and calculating. There’s are never smart and sweet leads.

The manager frames Jin Xiu. Jin Xiu was supposed to scatter powder around the products because it was getting dampy from the rainy weather. She makes Jin Xiu look irresponsible by removing the powder. Jin Xiu gets in trouble.

They tell her to pay for the ruined products out of her pocket. She asks Zuo Zhen to help but he pretty much tells her to suck it up and stand up for herself – if they step on her once, they’ll step on her again.

So we go full circle with Jin Xiu standing up for herself and finding out that the powder removed was put into a box in the corner of a storage room. They found out she was framed but for some reason they never actually investigated further in who was the culprit was.

Meanwhile, Ming Zhu and Xiang Shao get invited to a ball hosted by Maeda/Long Yi.

Long Yi was being all creepy and weird with Ming Zhu, so she decided to leave early. That’s when he decided to stop Ming Zhu by driving his car in front of hers. That’s a pretty risky move considering the automobiles back then had pretty faulty and unreliable brakes. Like what if her vehicle couldn’t stop in time? Pretty dangerous considering that they didn’t have seat belts.

So what happened was that Andy Lau, or er Long Yi’s boss, found Ming Zhu on the streets after her mom dies, and buried her mother. He renamed her Mei Zi and was the reason why she’s become so successful. Her main mission was to get close to the richest and most powerful man in Shanghai, which is Xiang Shao. So in a way, she’s been very successful.

Again, people in this drama do not reason with logic.  Ming Zhu blames her misfortunes on Jin Xiu even though Jin Xiu wasn’t even in Shanghai, but, drama. Ming Zhu gets spooked because her past is catching up to her.

Meanwhile, An Na uses Jin Xiu’s address (her dormitory at Mei Hua Makeup Factory) and uses the stationary there to write to her lover. Upon receiving a letter, she becomes very upset – turns out she’s been funding this guy for four years to go to university in Hong Kong, and she could only make that money was by being an escort.

I just want to sit her down for a parental talk. Girlfriend, first your man should not be living off of you; and secondly, if he does not love you regardless of your past and your previous actions, then he is not the man for you!

Apparently no one had the maturity or life experience to come up with this conclusion because they decided to make a fake Mei Hua in order to fool her boyfriend. Really?

Ok anyways they make a fake Mei Hua – and I’m so irritated by Jin Xiu. It seems like that since she knows that Zuo Zhen likes her, she’s trying to his feelings towards her to her own advantage. Ok you don’t like this guy and you’re rejecting him, but you hold his arm like this, and put your head on his shoulder when you ask him for a favour? And literally, the moment that he says yes, she leaves! Why would you do something so intimate (well, in the 1930’s) with someone that you weren’t interested in?

Can you not? Jin Xiu is playing two guys at once, and Ying Shao is misdirecting his feelings to Ming Zhu to Jin Xiu. There’s so many things wrong with this picture and they almost kiss. I was cringing – thank god they didn’t actually kiss, and he went for the forehead, but still, I was unimpressed.

  

Jin Ling is conveniently omniscient this drama – makes it so much easier for her to sabotage everything that Jin Xiu does. She finds out about this fake factory/office, and calls the authorities on it, saying that they were making fake goods.

While Du Pin, An Na’s boyfriend, was receiving a tour of the office, the authorities showed up. Zuo Zhen was there – his first reaction to the office was like mine – unimpressed. He uses his power, as well as Ying Shao’s status, to divert the authorities.

Anyways, later that night, Du Pin went to meet up with a old friend, while An Na went to ‘work’. As fate would have it, they bumped into each other and he found out that she was an escort. He actually pushes her to the ground and storms off.

I’d snap my fingers and go “Oh HAAAAALE no you don’t talk to me that way, not if I’ve put you through four years of school. I own you b*tch”. Unfortunately the producers don’t have my sense of humour so An Na sobbed on the ground.

An Na decides attempt suicide after thinking that she was dumped by that ungrateful dick. Luckily, Zuo Zhen (seemingly the only logical one out of all the characters) snaps some sense into Du Pin by explaining what I have throughout this whole post: he has no right to judge her especially when he’s using her money all these years. Du Pin goes to find An Na, and convinces her out of committing suicide. They decide to go to Hong Kong together.

At the end of the episode Du Pin and An Na leave to go to Hong Kong together, and Jin Xiu, Ying Shao, and Zuo Zhen see them off. Zuo Zhen puts his arm around Jin Xiu and she reacts like he’s kicked a puppy (clearly in exhibit A, screencap up left).

I’ve been complaining about Jin Xiu a lot, but I feel like I will reach my max point in episodes 11 and 12 because she has outdone herself on her annoying levels. 36 episodes left. If she keeps this up, it’ll become a ranting blog more than a recap blog, if it isn’t already.
