Mei Niang loses her baby: Her transition
Spoilers for Empress of China!!! It starts the little brat of a child, Consort Xiao’s son Su Jie picking on one of the other princes. Zhong Er and Su Jie were sword fighting, Zhong Er wins but Su Jie is a little brat and picks on him, and makes Zhong Er let him win. Zhong Er has no status because he’s the baby of a servant that slept with the Emperor (c’mon Li Zhi, you’re ruining my OTP needs).
Su Jie is all bruised and he goes back and everyone’s pissed – especially his evil mother.
Her punishment is being locked in Cheng Qing Dian for a month, and she gets to light up the candles every night. The Emperor, Li Zhi, visits her nearly every night. One night he begs her to let him take care of her. I swooned. He is so handsome.
Consort Xiao is pissed. And she unabashedly asked if the Emperor was favouring Mei Niang, and if the reason he loved her was because she looked like Mei Niang. This scene made me feel like it must be so nice to be an Emperor in a relationship. First of all, when you guys fight, they can’t say anything too mean to you, and they always have to be nice to you in some way, because you’re the Emperor. Secondly, even though I don’t support it in this era, it’s polygamous… aka tons of beautiful women.
Meanwhile there is a rumour that the baby is not Li Shi Min’s but Li Zhi’s, which is the present Emperor’s… all the concubines treat Mei Niang with disdain.
Mei Niang returns to her place after being prisoned at Cheng Qing Dian for a month, and she is appearing to miscarriage…
Obviously Consort Xiao at this point is in deep shit. The Emperor no longer favours her after this.
After this, Mei Niang tells Li Zhi she wants to leave the palace, because people are starting to target her because of his love for her. He says yes. She’s allowed to leave on Princess Gao Yang’s birthday, after her dinner. Meanwhile, Princess Gao Yang is not over the death of her lover, and she blames Zhang Sun Wu Ji.
There’s this scene where the servants gossip about the Emperor, Empress, Mei Niang, and Consort Xiao – about how he only loves Mei Niang, and Consort Xiao is losing – the Empress never had a chance. The Emperor hears all of this, and helps the Empress save face by inviting her for a walk.
During the birthday dinner, Mei Niang starts feeling extreme pain in her stomach. She screams for a doctor…
Mei Niang wakes up and realizes her baby is gone…
According to the trailer, this is what makes her become vengeful. Read more in the Trailer 69 Synopsis and Spoilers.
