I officially hate every character

These few episodes are very unimpressive. I am so unimpressed with every possible living character left in this drama.

The mother of Zhong Er was poisoned in the last episode. She wakes up this episode realizing that she only has seven days to live. She begs Mei Niang to take care of her child after her death. Mei Niang slyly asks her if she wants to take revenge on Empress Wang… If she does, then to agree on allowing the Empress to take her son, and then to enter the Empress’s palace.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Mei Niang asks the Emperor to go to Empress Wang’s palace, on the basis that she wants to go there and pretty much ‘say hi’ because she hasn’t done so, and as a concubine, she’s supposed to acknowledge the main wife (which is the Empress). The Emperor agrees – stupidly, because who doesn’t know that they have beef? Obviously something’s up.

As the mother and Empress Wang are chatting, the mother of Zhong Er puts poison in her own tea with a ring, a device that if you roll it over, it has a hole inside that can pour poison out. She gets Zhong Er to hide the ring after she pours out the poison.

Zhong Er’s mother begins to die from the poison, and falsely accuses Empress Wang of poisoning her. It’s because she knows that she only has days to live, and she wants her death as a revenge on Empress Wang – at the same time her and Mei Niang planned for the Emperor to enter the room.

The Emperor is pissed at first, but Empress Wang invites Zhang Sun Wu Ji. Zhang Sun Wu Ji accurately stated that because of Zhong Er’s mother’s hate for Empress Wang, and her remaining days to live, this is likely to be a ploy to accuse Empress Wang. He asks Zhong Er for confirmation: Was your mother sick? Did she hate Empress Wang?

The little brat. Being the dumb brat that he is, he says yes to both, and he ruins the work that his mother tried to do. I don’t hate him yet because of this, but you’ll soon see why I do. Little brat.

Originally going to visit Zhong Er, Mei Niang realizes Empress Wang is already there, and so she goes for a walk. 

Meanwhile this little brat, Zhong Er sucks up to Empress Wang – saying that she’s the one that loves him the most other than his own mother. No backbone, this was the woman who killed your mom!!!

Characters that unimpress me: 1) Zhong Er

So we get to the long waited for dancing scene between Li Ke and Mei Niang. After this scene, I’m even more WTF. Their dance was a moment of opportunity – a moment of chance. It was added in to complicate things for sure. Pretty much he was just practicing his swordsmanship and she suddenly looked at him and thought of Li Shi Min, the old Emperor, and started to dance with him. That’s it. Seriously. WTF. You guys have no basis for your actions.

First of all, why would you start to dance, just because of remembering your lost love? You consciously know that he’s not him, and you shouldn’t start dancing with him especially because he’s your current husband’s brother, especially, especially when dancing is such a big deal back then.

Secondly Li Ke what were YOU thinking?! So she starts dancing towards you, and you don’t find it strange, but start to dance with her? Especially with the knowledge that Emperor is jealous and suspicious of you both!!!

Why do people act like they’re under a spell or something? If everyone had a little bit of logic there would not be so many misunderstandings.

Characters that unimpress me:  1) Zhong Er, 2) Li Ke, 3) Mei Niang

So the Emperor’s furious. And what does he decide to do? Get laid.

He’s going to have some angry sex. I am so unimpressed and grossed out. He literally enters in the room angrily and grabs Consort Xiao aggressively, and throws her onto the bed.

And Consort Xiao, essentially being thrown on the bed, closes her eyes in anticipation?! Seriously? He seems like he wants to fight someone, and you’re anticipating this? This seems like the most unhealthy relationship ever.

 

Characters that unimpress me:  1) Zhong Er, 2) Li Ke, 3) Mei Niang, 4) Li Zhi, 5) Consort Xiao

We also find out that Princess Gao Yang has been working with Li Ke’s servant to help Li Ke usurp the throne and get rid of Li Zhi. Li Ke doesn’t know this – they just want him to become Emperor.

Why, you may ask?! Oh well it’s because her father had appointed Li Zhi to be Emperor, and because she wants to get revenge so badly, she wants to mess up her father’s last wishes, by getting rid of Li Zhi. Seriously? And the purpose of Mei Niang is not only to get rid of Zhang Sun Wu Ji, it’s also to make Li Zhi hated among the chancellors because he won’t get rid of her. Yo seriously? That’s your own brother! And you’re starting so much trouble just to avenge your lover, who’s a monk, who couldn’t have truly loved you back anyways?!

Characters that unimpress me:  1) Zhong Er, 2) Li Ke, 3) Mei Niang, 4) Li Zhi, 5) Consort Xiao, 6) Princess GaoYang

There’s not really an import scene in the screencaps above, they’re just having a face-off, but they both look so beautiful.

Anyways the Emperor confronts Mei Niang. He accuses her of changing, and that she’s trying to frame Empress Wang to avenge her child.

He even accuses her of being with Li Ke, which she cries and denies it. She stated that she only started dancing because she thought of the old Emperor Li Shi Min… which is the wrong thing to say. At this point the Emperor becomes more furious.

If you’ve read my previous entries, you know that she faints and this is the way to end their argument. But I am incredibly unimpressed with Li Zhi in this scene. He’s just so insecure about her love, and rightly so, but as such a powerful man he shouldn’t see it as his first priority. He’s just full of internal conflicts – she is absolutely not his first priority and should never be, and this is why he will never surpass his father.

Turns out she’s pregnant!

And meanwhile Consort Xiao and Empress Wang are freaking out – especially with how much the Emperor loves Mei Niang, it’s very likely that their sons cannot be Crown Prince.

All the chancellors beg the Emperor to get rid of Mei Niang after they find out she’s pregnant. He refuses, and stands alone against all of them….

Trailer 77

The trailer looks pretty uneventful: Mei Niang has her baby, sends a provoking letter to Empress Wang, and Empress Wang gets so angry that she decides to do voodoo on Mei Niang. Empress of China only has two days left!!! I have nothing to watch now ):
