HOPE IS ON THE HORIZON!!!
Ayez de l’espoir! The past few episodes was like the smell pizza for a hungry person. I really hope Bai Lang and Jiang Xin reconcile soon, but considering that this drama only has 46 episodes, I’m thinking tragedy will probably strike immediately after they reconcile. #blamechenyushan
And doesn’t Tiffany Tang look like Janice Man? During some close-up scenes, they just look so similar! I guess pretty girls all look a bit similar though – sharp face, straight nose, big eyes too.
The episode starts with Bai Lang asking at a temple whether he still has an opportunity to return what he owes to Jiang Xin. He feels like he is responsible for her current predicament, and wonders if he could even return her her original life. The temple says yes, and he alludes to needing to hurt her in order to her her.
Then Mr. Wang, the Ye family assistant, tells Jiang Xin that Jie Wen sold his estate to help her pay for her bills. This Wang-family-assistant person is extremely unreliable ok – Jie Wen specifically told you not to say anything ma! Why do people tell you things? He doesn’t keep secrets, and this has happened on numerous occasions.
Anyways, old business partners looking to get money from the Ye business because they found out that some of the fabric was ‘fake’, thanks to Tang Hu and Ye Xin. This is because Tang Hu switched out some of the silk to put in some fake silk in to make money off the cut. The business partners kept breaking things, so Jiang Xin used parts of the money that Jie Wen had given her to give to this to these people.
Financially was taken care of, but the brand of the Ye family business was tarnished.
Money was tight so she made a decision: SHE WAS GOING TO SPEND A NIGHT WITH THE DIRECTOR IN ORDER TO BORROW MONEY.
So she goes to his hotel room to sign an agreement. She knows what’s up – I mean, when someone asks you to spend a night with them to trade for something else, they’re usually meaning sex. Right?! It was like she did not think of this beforehand…
…Because she immediately regrets it afterwards. I’m not saying like, two minutes into it. Probably 10 seconds after signing that agreement, she’s like “Nope, I don’t want to have sex. The deal’s off”. WELL SH*T YOU SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THAT CLEARLY BECAUSE NOW YOU’RE IN DANGER! I am not victim-blaming but I’m getting mad because of motherly love for her ok? Every time she’s about to get assaulted I cringe and feel anxious for her.
Thank god Mr. Wang’s untrustworthiness has come into good use. He calls Bai Lang when he’s found out where Jiang Xin has gone.
And thank god Bai Lang came to the rescue for her. And he very sweetly gives her his jacket and protects her. He always manages to look so handsome and reassured. Sigh. I wish our female lead didn’t need so much protecting so much, and I wish she was more of a heroine-type of lead.
Turns out Jiang Xin was being fooled the whole time – in order to borrow money she would need three signatures – his contract was not even enough to allow her to borrow money. C’mon homegirl you need to be more careful.
Bai Lang offers her a deal – to marry him so he could own the Ye family business too, and in return he’ll give 9 million dollars to bail out the Ye business. The only reason why he asks her to marry him is because he needs to explain why he would use all of Bai family cash flow to bail out another business – only if she was his wife.
Jiang Xin realized that this was what she had to do, and she would rather ‘sacrifice’ herself instead of losing her Grandfather’s hard work, and the jobs of so many factory workers.
She spends one last date with Jie Wen:
They go to their old date place that was closed, and Jie Wen literally just ‘forces’ it open. Did they just have sh*tty locks and doors back then or was this just absolutely ridiculous? Why do they make Jie Wen into such an a*shole? Dine and dash (in the first date), and now breaking and entering?
They even have a scene of him yelling in a residential area at night about how much he loves Jiang Xin. My reaction was like the resident that shouted back at him to shut up: unimpressed.
Anyways, Jiang Xin drugs him, and tells Mr. Wang not to tell Jie Wen that she’s marrying Bai Lang until a few days after, at least not until it’s official.
Well, sh*t.
The untrustworthy Mr. Wang strikes again. Jie Wen very casually asks where Jiang Xin is – any good liar could come up with a good excuse – like she’s gonna be at the factory for a bit. But nope – “She’s getting married to Bai Lang in order to save the Ye family business”.
Thanks a lot Mr. Wang. You are the worst at keeping secrets.
They’re conveniently just signing it when Jie Wen rushes there. What’s the security like there? How is he always barging in?
Jiang Xin uses her Mrs. Bai status to get the servants to take Jie Wen away. What is this family where they can imprison normal civilians in their basement for a few days? This all just doesn’t make sense.
Bai Lang pressures her to have sex with him that night – which Jiang Xin refuses. She says that he is no different to her, than the director that tried to rape her. Bai Lang, with a hurt look in his eyes, tells her that he’s going to look for some other women that night. The next morning, he has lipstick on his collar, and an escort is at the house right next to him.
I think he’s hurting her intentionally just so that she will believe that he is only helping because he can gain monetary benefits so she’s more willing to accept his help but… I think that’s very unnecessary, but I think that it’s partially because it’s due to Jiang Xin’s immaturity and pride that he has to do this.
This was such a cute scene where Bai Lang protected Jiang Xin when the car suddenly came to a halt. Shi Tou, seeing this, almost did it again – until Bai Lang said “If you try that, I’ll chop your legs off”. Heh.
The other executives of the Bai family gives Bai Lang pressure. There is a ravaging war, and he just spent all of their emergency money on bailing out Jiang Xin’s factory. They’re mad that he’s so reckless, and that he didn’t even tell them that he got married.
One of the elders makes him sign a paper that if he doesn’t get the 9 million dollars worth of emergency money back in one month, he’ll have to step down as the leader of the Bai family.
I really hope that this doesn’t affect him – I see pictures of him in kind of raggedy clothes during the war and I really hope that it’s not because he bailed out Jiang Xin and it’s getting to him. I also hate how he’s doing so much for Jiang Xin and he’s taking such big risks and putting so many other people on the line, and she doesn’t even recognize it or know. I just want them to be together and in love before it’s too late!!!
One of the elders stay behind – Auntie Yan, because she wanted to see how in love Jiang Xin and Bai Lang were. Bai Lang asks her to prepare dinner, and she prepares everything made with bitter melon that he hates. They have such a cute scene bantering here, where they fake love and they feed each other food that they hate.
Jiang Xin releases Jie Wen from his imprisonment (no seriously what kind of normal residence imprisons normal civilians? Really does not make sense) and he tells her that he will not wait for her anymore. Right here I breathe a sigh of relief because I am very sick of of their triangle and seeing chemistry-less scenes of Jiang Xin and Jie Wen.
Jie Wen leaves the Bai residence, and coincidentally sees Japanese soldiers on the way home (what are the chances), and gets shot. He falls into the water. He’s totally not dead yet though, because I see him coming back in the beginning/end song trailer… unless it was cut out. Still, sigh of relief because I am so sick of seeing Jie Wen.
The factory has an impeding deadline to make money because it is time to pay the workers. Jiang Xin stupidly thinks that she can solve this problem by selling the fabric on the streets. Seriously – why do they keep emphasizing that she’s so quick-witted and smart in the drama? Because she really hasn’t proven her self to be very intelligent at this point.
She finds out the only buyer that she had in the day was sent by Bai Lang. Bai Lang forces her to study his old notes in order to actually learn more about the fabric industry and how to do business instead of treating it like her street performances that she did in the past.
Bai Lang goes to the Ye factory and burns all the old fabric. It was to force Jiang Xin to create new and improved fabric, and to catch on with the trends. The fabric she was selling was already out-dated and the quality was not as good as competitor’s.
Again, before coming up with strategies, Jiang Xin throws a habitual b*tch fit at Bai Lang. Every time she realizes that Bai Lang does things for a reason for her, she still throws these fits. Jiang Xin finally comes up with a new an improved fabric, and makes it into a beautiful dress. She fools the fabric-maker and Bai Lang to think that its a competitor’s fabric, in order to get their true opinion – and they both approved and said it was top notch.
Bai Lang takes Jiang Xin (who is wearing the dress) to a restaurant full of socialites. The socialites are influential in purchasing trends, so Jiang Xin tries to sell them the fabric. They initially ridicule her, until Bai Lang makes her dance to show off the beautiful dress.

This guy comments in english on how beautiful she is – his voice is dubbed and he has a chinese accent that suspiciously sounds the like boxer in the first video
Well I mean it’s a drama, right? The socialites cornily admire Jiang Xin and her beautiful dress from the dance and makes a 180 degree change and put orders down for the fabric. Because, drama. It’s cheesy and predictable but I still love it. Please give us more of what we want, Chen Yu Shan. No more surprises/curveballs please.
In the last scene, Jiang Xin finally thanks Bai Lang for all he’s done for her. She’s slowly recognizing that he’s not a bad guy and he’s really trying to help. I think this is a start for our dear OTP to reunite!!! I have hope, I have so much hope!
TRAILER 37, 38, 39
Bai Lang spends a lot of time with Yao Mei Er to mend their broken relationship in order to get her to convince her godfather to sell machinery to the Ye family business for cheap.

That’s a… very bright red glass of wine. Are you sure that’s wine?
Jiang Xin feels sad, b*tch fit, blah blah blah. Same old misunderstanding.
The Godfather of Yao Mei Er exposes Bai Lang’s plans all along to Yao Mei Er, and Yao Mei Er starts crying. Jiang Xin tries to come and defend Bai Lang, or at least keep him company while he’s suffering from all this embarrassment, but he sends her home. Yao Mei Er’s condition for the machinery is that Bai Lang spends one night with her at the hotel (like a gigolo).
I’ve seen a picture of Bai Lang and Yao Mei Er on the bed but I’m pretty sure nothing happens. I’m just wondering if Jiang Xin comes to the rescue, if Bai Lang just couldn’t, or if Yao Mei Er just stops him.
The drama though – our OTP are slowly falling back in love 🙂 I’m excited for Jiang Xin to fall back in love with him again!!!
Thanks for recaps again. In the picture Tiffany does look like Janice Man, but remember Janice Man have lots of plastic surgery so she is not really pretty, her nose definitely wasn’t tall to begin with. Tiffany however is very naturally pretty (however I prefer her without the circle lenses)
I saw a scene where bai lang leans over the actress on the bed, eager to find out what happens. I hope jiang xin will find out that bai lang is doing so much for her and I also hope his “un gelled” hair and casual clothing look isn’t because he lost all his money for helping her. But I see the look in his eye when he signed the paper to repay everything in 1 month, he doesn’t look too convinced.

Sigh Jiang Xin truly ruined Bai Lang I think – the drama is trying to make him into the ‘perfect guy’ so he has to make some sacrifices and the plot has to torment him. He loses everything for her… sigh. I am not looking forward to the ending.
and me too, I think she looks better without the circle lenses.

Episode 41 trailer… Oh bai lang! Jiang Xin start to feel something for him… And he went and told her “we are only friends”… Well, to be honest don’t really blame him. She’s so indecisive and her head always seems so muddled up. But they are pretty much going around in circles. Come on not much episodes left, get together already!

I’ve been stalking the internet as well and there’s a pic of JX on the ground after she fainted. I believe what the article said was that Bai Lang announced to the newspaper that they divorced and he dropped her off at her place. It’s the scene where she’s standing there and he drives away. 😩

omg 😥 I can’t even – so that means the OTP won’t end up together… I heard from tiffany tang weibo that there are numerous endings. I hope that there is one where Bai Lang changes his name to avoid Japanese troops but lives happily ever after with Jiang Xin afterwards.

I do believe they end up together eventually after Japan invades Shanghai. Bai Lang is in his brown colored attire with the cute hair. There’s clips of JX kissing him in her house. I also watched a clip of bloopers where they were in bed together and Bai Lang was passed out. Lol.

Really, did he need to burn everything? What about the hard work, hours, not to mention the expenses for creating an entire new inventory of stock.. He is just being unnecessary mean all over, for some other unstated reason methinks. What is the point of saying “he owes her her/his life and hence should give her everything” and being rude (not just mean looking) about it? Guess bowing his head at her every word isnt manly enough.. Looking defeated? Or feigning complete but polite detachment not good enough for ratings. Look at when they first met and she was still masked – his character has the capacity for it. but Nah they gotta have a prickly jerk. Because because.
Another thing is – is selling fabric in the streets really such a bad idea? Surely every merchant family had to start from a humbler state, somewhere. Missing subtitles aside (that scene where she looks at “stolen” notes might have been informative if understood), show references too many missing scenes. Dragging out some scenes but not developing others. Though there are other cdramas with a censored or otherwise ‘simplified’ version.. You have flipping episodes, surely good spare some good fleshing. Thought this before but – seems show is trying every trope in the book at least once but elaborating none. Which sounds better on paper.
Can an uneducated (inexperienced with fabric) girl suddenly create a whole new product just like that? Maybe. But make sense of the notes of someone more experienced? It wasnt anything but a diary too.. Sure it is in her blood, she intelligent enough yada – but make a bigger deal about it so we can understand? No wonder they only ever make hints at his business ways. One, boring. Two, his ‘training’ is kinda painful ‘logic’ to sit through. Also if his family/him was so great as to be unaffected by – all the things drama has affected so far – (while ending any and all influence himself with mere presence) then surely one set of billions, one bought about to bankrupt family/factory (why do they only have one factory. whatever happened to home base and is that place sold now too) – shouldnt affect his standings either. But yeah, rich heartless(ruthless?) genius man. One girl, his ultimate downfall and heel. drama, ok.
