Dragging my feet to do this

I’ve been so late to recap this… but holy crap. This drama has turned into such a dud for me. It was so great for the first ten episodes, and that’s when they should have ended it, but man… they just keep dragging it on with Gong Min leaving and coming back, leaving and coming back. It’s just like he never learns his lesson and it’s really repetitive. So that’s it. This proceeds until episode 18 (that’s where I’ve watched up to so far) and I’m really unimpressed. But, I will recap and fill you in and highlight the these four episodes.

Han Yu Fei is still devastated over Xiang Xiang leaving him for Gong min. He drinks a lot and talks shit about her on TV.

The workers in the production call them in to do some damage control and Han Yu Fei refuses to act in the production if Xiang Xiang is there.

I feel like I’d probably act the same way if I thought that someone cheated on me – I’d do the same too.

Xiang Xiang returns from that meeting back home and she realizes Gong Min is gone. She freaks out like an overly attached girlfriend and realizes he went back briefly and also went out to get groceries.

Am I the only one that thinks that they have an unhealthy relationship? I mean… she couldn’t possibly expect him to stay home all the time, and freak out and cry every time he’s missing. And the Han dynasty is his home right? She couldn’t possibly freak out every time he… returned home right?

I am so unaffected by their ‘cute’ scenes now because I AM SO FED UP WITH HOW THIS IS DRAGGING OUT &@#$%!

And am I the only one that would ask Gong Min to use the jade to take me back to the Han Dynasty to see what it’s like? I mean… isn’t she curious?

Gong Min goes back again to ‘deal with some stuff’ (like seriously dude, everything’s fixed, what other stuff do you need to do?) and he gets invited to this annual celebration where the best scholars write for the Empress Dowager. Everyone tells him not to go, like how everyone tells him not to come back to the past, but you know, Gong Min has a knack for bad choices.

Meanwhile Xiang Xiang has to use her assistant manager as a stand in because Han Yu Fei refuses to act with her.

WELL WHAT DO YOU KNOW? It was a trick Gong Min was set up by Wang Meng. They tried to kill him in front of Empress Dowager, and since he disappeared, it was clear that he engaged in witchcraft.

But I mean they clearly had no regard for his life because the alternative to proving him in doing witchcraft is… well, his death.

Even though he was badly hurt after he returned to the present time, he took his sweet time at the library to take out a few books, and read up on history.

Times that he’s gone back to the past and failed: 1

Finally he calls up Xiang Xiang and tells her that he needs her and he’s badly injured.

Xiang Xiang is obviously pissed and tells him never to go back there again. But… he has to.

She tries to act like a child and ignore him but he has to go back for the sake of ex-Empress Xu.

He finds out that ex-Empress Xu is badly treated afterwards by the Emperor because she’s suspected of witchcraft again because of Gong Min’s apparent witchcraft. She commits suicide afterwards.

I mean… at this point he doesn’t see the common similarity of each of the endings to history, which is ex-Empress Xu’s suicide. C’mon bro, the woman has a weak will to live! Just let it go.

But if he listened in the first place, he wouldn’t have gone back at the beginning of Episode 13. Now watch how this backfires yet again.

Gong Min is captured and is brought in front of the Emperor for questioning. They know all about the jade pendant, and how it saves his life every time he almost dies. The Empress Dowager is there to put pressure on the Emperor to ‘test’ him, aka trying to kill him to see if he would disappear.

Ying Yue visits him in prison. Turns out Gong Min had a fake jade with him, and he gave the real working time-travelling jade to Ying Yue. He was prepared to get shot/almost killed to save ex-Empress Xu’s name.

I would like to say they obviously did not think about this arrangement because if Gong Min was shot, and he was indeed practicing witchcraft, the arrow would go directly through him and striking the soldiers behind him.

Like seriously. What are you guys thinking?

Gong Min requests for Wang Meng to take the shot.

And it hits Gong Min in the chest, but closer to his arm.

Well one thing, technically Wang Meng intentionally missed his aim from the heart to the arm, so Gong Min’s life wasn’t in danger at that moment, so theoretically, even the real jade might not have worked right?

But anyways, Gong Min was hit, and Wang Meng and all the others were shocked. It looked like that they wrongly accused him of witchcraft.

Back in modern times, for some reason Xiang Xiang’s health is directly tied with Gong Min’s, and she feels sick and nauseous simultaneously. Feeling like something must be going wrong with Gong Min, she looks through her phone and saw that he died.

She faints, and when she wakes up she starts crying uncontrollably.

The Emperor is pissed after killing off one of his most loyal and trusted advisors. The Wang family is shitting bricks because of the Emperor’s anger, and they just lost the trust of the Empress Dowager. The Wang family blames everything on Wang Meng, while Wang Meng is mourning over the death of his best friend.

And… surprise surprise! Gong Min is still alive! Obviously because we still have to drag on for freaken 5 more episodes. Also, notice in all of the scenes, his head is covered. I wonder why – maybe he wasn’t available to film those scenes or something.

But anyways, turns out Gong Min planned this in advance. He planned to get shot, and have his body delivered to the woods and for Ying Yue to put the real time-travelling jade on him.

Look, his face is covered mostly here too, except when he is transported back into the future.

Anyways, turns out the place that Gong Min arranged to get transported back in the woods is directly in the back of a hospital, and a few days earlier, he gave a lot of money to the hospital to heal him, and told him the approximate time that he would show up.

Somehow he managed to arrange a text message to show up on that day (like how do you get a text message to be sent a few days later? I don’t even know and I grew up in the modern times) and told Xiang Xiang which hospital she was at. She sees him, and she’s pissed that he put himself in life-threatening danger again but they make up and kiss.

Also, her legs are so skinny. That is all.

Meanwhile, the Wang family get a different representative, Chang, instead, because of Wang Meng’s failure. This new representative also gains Zhao Fei Yan’s favours. Wang Meng blames all this on Gong Min. He knew there was something fishy about Gong Min’s death too, and he believed Gong Min did all this to ruin him.

Wang Meng used a piece of information that he found out from his spies to his advantage: ex-Empress Xu’s pregnancy.

Gong Min finds out that ex-Empress Xu ends up committing suicide again because her pregnancy was claimed by others to be fathered by Gong Min.

Seriously man, the woman has a weak will to live. There’s nothing you can do bro.

Times that he’s gone back to the past and failed: 2

Gong Min decides to go back, yet again, and Xiang Xiang, who’s sick of his shit (and so are we) decides to break up with him if he doesn’t stay in the 21st century. I mean, I can’t blame her for breaking up with him, I’d do the same for different reasons though.

Insane is defined by doing the same thing and expecting different results. I feel like his picture would be suited to be under the definition, because he keeps going back and keeps ending up with the same results but he won’t stop. I’d break up with him because I’m pretty sick of that.

Meanwhile Jing Jie is upset because she realized that Tian Xiu wasn’t interested in her, but in someone else. She had false hopes all along, and when Tian Xiu confessed his love during the birthday party of the Director, she thought it was for her, but realized it was for someone else.

At the end of episode 16, Gong Min gets sad because he comes back from the Han dynasty and sees Han Yu Fei affectionately put a scarf over Xiang Xiang.

Sorry for the very brief recap. I’m not enjoying this drama a lot at this point, and just wanted to do it to complete this drama. I’ve been sick of it since episode 9… The whole drama is out and it ended yesterday (March 16th) and I still have a few more episodes to recap, so stay tuned if you also find it unbearable but want to find out what happens in the end. I can’t believe this drama became such a dud. Ergh.
