Eye of the hurricane
These past two episodes are pretty much the calm before things get heavy (again). It builds up to Zuo Zhen regaining his power, and what happened in between, which is not much. But still a very enjoyable two episodes as we finally got some cute (and healthy) coupley moments between Zuo Zhen and Jin Xiu.
Jin Xiu and Zuo Zhen live a difficult life getting by under the radar, being poor and stressed out all the time.
Jin Xiu had to see the doctor for dizziness, and it was found that her pulse was weak, and she needed better nutrition in order to be healthy.
Good to know the old habit of spying on her hasn’t gone away eh?
Zuo Zhen sees Jin Xiu worry about money (and this tugs at my heart strings) and decides to get a job.
Zuo Zhen gets a job as a moving worker at a nearby harbour. The boss there treats him like crap, and after a month of hard work, and being tight on money, the boss has the audacity to try to take half his pay (as little as it was to him).
Zuo Zhen tried to negotiate, but failed. The boss’s guys came out after him and beat him up – Zuo Zhen couldn’t fight back because it would reveal who he was (or draw attention to himself), so he just allowed himself being beaten up.
Meanwhile, Shi Hao and Tang Hai were being tortured by Long Si to find out about Zuo Zhen’s whereabouts.
While Shi Hao caved and went on Long Si’s side, Tang Hai got beaten up so badly that he ended up having a crippled leg, and he was released on the streets. Tang Hai ended up washing cars to make money.
Zuo Zhen on the other hand, after being beaten up, and only paid 1/6th of what he deserved and worked for, decided to use the rest of that money to buy nutritious congee for Jin Xiu.
The way that he was wounded and weakly protected the congee like it was a million dollars (because it was all he had) to give to his wife… The feels :'(.
He tried to hide part of his face when he got home, to not worry Jin Xiu about his wounds, but she ended up noticing.
When she saw the wounds, she began to cry silently while she ate her congee, understanding what had happened and his sacrifice for her.
Jin Xiu ended up selling her dad’s jade ring in order to buy pretty much the 1930’s Bengay (except that it was proportionately much more expensive).
When Zuo Zhen realized this, Jin Xiu merely said “The most important thing is you”.
And he held her in appreciation.
They continued to have very cute scenes together, holding each other in appreciation in times of hardship. The past two episodes has really solidified the OTP for me… They are really cute as a *married* couple (but the courting part was still absolutely unbearable).
Seeing them go through this together puts fuzzies in my heart, but also makes me dread for when she turns against him T___T.
Shi Hao turns out to be still loyal to Zuo Zhen, and decides to snoop into Long Si’s stuff while he was drunk. Shi Hao got caught and tortured, but not before he hid this little booklet of incriminating evidence into this little mail box. He locked the mailbox with a key.
Meanwhile Xiang Han Chuan keep talking about these secret shipments – Ming Zhu overhears this and tells Long Yi for more opium.
My thought: I think Xiang Han Chuan is letting her hear intentionally to get Long Yi lured into a trap.
Long Yi makes Ming Zhu kill Shi Hao. She holds the gun and shakes, and couldn’t do it. Shi Hao then took her gun to his chest and said “I know you’re being forced to do what to do right now. I’m willing to give up my life for the sake of Zuo Zhen – please take this key and take the evidence”, which he promptly hands her the key to the mail box.
Spoiler: Shi Hao doesn’t die. I wonder how he got around Long Yi’s sharp eyes – maybe him and Ming Zhu worked together from before? Either that or Long Yi’s men did a pretty shitty job of disposing a guy who is apparently dying from a gun wound with no blood right?
Shi Hao is proclaimed dead and Long Si makes a huge funeral for him, hoping that Zuo Zhen would come.
Zuo Zhen does, because he’s all about the brotherhood, but not before he changed out of his dirty clothes, and into his matrix outfit.
Like, how did he get access to this outfit? And is the outfit change really necessary to attend the funeral or conduct the confrontation.
I guess it does give you a boost in courage when you look like Neo from the Matrix right?
Long Si shows up, ready to kill Zuo Zhen, until Zuo Zhen turns the gun back on him, and reveals that he knows that Long Si killed both the commissioner’s son, as well as Boss Fung. The episode ends before more information is given.
Each episode is very action packed and we’re moving at a really quick pace tomorrow. I’m curious about what happens in the next episode (spoiler again, Jin Xiu loses her baby, if you didn’t know) and how it plays out… This is probably the only two real OTP scenes we have for a while, and I think the rest of the drama will end in angst and revenge… Sigh. Get prepared for so many feels.
