So many plotholes – but at least we’re moving on

Disclaimer: I’ve gotten these comments in the past, and I don’t want to disappoint people/mislead people on these recaps – I do these recaps for fun – and the fun part about it is to share my commentary and discuss with other people some highlights/plotholes on the plotlines. More than once I’ve received comments on how my recaps are more highlights than detailed plot-by-plot points – I do my best to fill in parts of the story so I can just write about how I feel about the plotline, so I guess I’ll start putting semi-recap in my titles instead of recap.

Jiang Yu wakes up in the hospital from his injuries. Fei Fei is crying and apologizing when Jiang Yu revealed that he actually used Fei Fei to get that fake secret method to Shao Tian.

Jiang Yu knew Fei Fei was naive and petty enough to be used by Shao Tian to steal the secret method – which says a lot about her character, and I’m surprised that she wasn’t upset that she was used.

Jiang Yu asks to see Cai Hong and tells her that he owes her an explanation, and that everything will be explained soon. He acts coldly to her, even though she apologizes and tries to explain herself.

Turns out Jiang Yu’s plan was to utilize the competition to put on a show about how Jiang Yu not having the secret method. Bookkeeper Cai, Jiang Yu, and Shao Tian were the only three known people that could have had it – since Jiang Yu and Shao Tian are now out of the picture, Bookkeeper Cai would have to somehow show up to explain himself.

Shao Tian, not knowing that this was a trap, unknowingly invites Bookkeeper Cai back to Hu Zhou. He gets Ma Li, his underling, to fetch Bookkeeper Cai. Since this was a trap, Ma Li gets followed by the police, and Bookkeeper Cai is captured.

Cai Hong shows up at the hospital to offer Jiang Yu some homemade congee, and Jiang Yu coldly refuses.

I guess the producers are trying to show that Cai Hong has a crush on him now, and wants to take care of him, but I really don’t see the chemistry or the love from her to him. Instead, I really see it vice versa, from Jiang Yu to Cai Hong – I guess that’s just the difference in acting skills right?

Jiang Yu refuses the congee, but invites Cai Hong to see a ‘show’ with him.

The show was the interrogation of Bookkeeper Cai, who already had an excellent alibi played out: his reasoning for the missing money was that he was fooled into lending money to a shell company since they promised to return with 50% interest. He played dumb with Wu Hong Da’s death and held firm with his lies.

Meanwhile Fei Fei visits Jiang Yu with congee. She finds the congee that Cai Hong brought, and he directs Fei Fei to pour it out.

Fei Fei, hating Cai Hong so much, decides to throw it out completely, along with the tupperware.

This was such an adorable scene. Jiang Yu, feeling bad for throwing out the tupperware, looks in every garbage can to find it.

And awkwardly bumps into a nurse while he rummages through trash.

SEWWW A D O R A B L E. I don’t know if I’m just a 死變態 (twisted pervert) but I think Hawick looks so especially cute in his sick outfits – like when he was sick in the hospital in Lady and the Liar and the few scenes where he’s sick in this drama.

In the second interrogation of Bookkeeper Cai, he went back on his previous alibi, and admitted to stealing all the money alone. This was because Shao Tian had visited him earlier in jail, and promised to take care of his family if Bookkeeper Cai had admitted to everything.

Jiang Yu, noticing the change in Bookkeeper Cai’s demeanour after his meeting with Shao Tian, decides to visit him in jail that night.

There, from their meeting, Jiang Yu finds out that Bookkeeper Cai’s family were used as bargaining chips. He decides to use this information as leverage.

Jiang Yu notifies the fei police chief to inform him of a plan to get Bookkeeper Cai’s family out. Again, the fei (uselesness) of the police chief is exemplified by how Jiang Yu has to do his job for him, by setting up traps and finding key witnesses.

It was apparent to Jiang Yu that there was a mole inside of the police station as there were people that tortured him from the station for the secret method – so the plan was to reveal fake information that Bookkeeper Cai had come to an agreement to cooperate if the police had rescued his family from Shao Tian.

Jiang Yu’s plan had worked – and Shao Tian had mistakenly thought that the police were going to rescue the family and knew where the whereabouts were. In order to make sure that the family wasn’t found, Shao Tian got Ma Li to move the family at night.

…Except that this was just all a trap to lead the police to Bookkeeper Cai’s family – nobody really knew about where they were until Shao Tian tried to move them.

It’s like what they say in ‘Suits’ – if you want to get away with murder, don’t move the body.

Shao Tian finds out that he’s been tricked, and has the audacity to take Cai Hong to his ‘special place’ to tell her that he loves her, and that he’s going away for a while. Stupid and gullible Cai Hong think that he’s going away for another military trip for Lu Man (hasn’t she been in the loop all along?! He’s the main suspect they’ve been trapping!).

Shao Tian is taken to the police station where he refuses to address Bookkeeper Cai’s testimony against him. Instead, he yells towards the blinds where he knew that Cai Hong and Jiang Yu were standing, and tries to get Cai Hong to reply him.

He is so manipulative.

He tries to guilt trip her by saying “Now you believe everything that Jiang Yu tells you, hm? You never believed me.”

Well HELLO you actually stole the money from her dad, and you actually attacked her dad, so she has good reason not to believe anymore, because the facts are in front of her! It’s not even a matter of faith anymore.

Cai Hong is stunned by Shao Tian’s refusal to address the testimony. She walks through the streets, confused – while our dear caring Jiang Yu follows her and makes sure that she’s ok. Cai Hong decides to confront Shao Tian personally.

Cai Hong confronts Shao Tian in jail and tries to get him to just say that he didn’t do it, and Shao Tian refuses to address the issue directly, and continues to manipulate her by guilt tripping her for not trusting him.

Lu Man decides to visit Shao Tian.

I think by now it’s well established that Lu Man has a crush on Shao Tian, since she is jealous of the attention that Cai Hong receives. She tries to offer to help him, and asks what she could do, except Shao Tian actually acts like a total dick to her, and tells her that they’re not friends, they’re just partners in an agreement.

Hurt and insulted, Lu Man finds her revenge to Shao Tian when she is interrogated by the fei police chief. He believes everything she says without doubting a single word.

Lu Man revealed that Rong Da was really founded by Shao Tian and Shao Tian’s money (which proved that Shao Tian had took Ling Long’s money) and that Shao Tian had asked her for a new golden pen to avert his suspicion/involvement in Wu Hong Da’s murder.

Shao Tian decides to act as his own lawyer for the trial, but he doesn’t say anything during the questioning – he only dumbly looks at Cai Hong or he stares off into space and smirks.

It’s been such a busy week for me with work that I haven’t even caught up. I have 6 episodes to catch up on, and also getting starting on the new drama, Hua Qian Gu because it looks pretty promising too.
