OH DEAR
Honestly, from reading comments and discussion and everywhere I already know that the ending for this drama is going to not be that great – especially with plotholes and bad acting. BUT, I mean we are nearing the end, I have six episodes left, so might as well watch the whole drama in its entirety.
Since I’ve just grown so unattached to this drama, this entry (and probably the next entry) will be more of my commentary on the highlights of the episode, rather than a detailed recap.
Our episode starts with Shao Tian being acquitted for the murder of Wu Hong Da, but he still remains on the hook for stealing money. He’s looking at a lot of jail time.
Cai Hong is looking for ways to get him out of jail time, and the fei police chief hint that if there is no plaintiff (aka her) there is no defendant.
So Cai Hong drops all charges against Shao Tian – and Shao Tian is released as a free man!
All this jail time did Shao Tian some good as he went home and apologized to his mom for being an asshole of a son for all these years because he finally ‘understands what his dad had felt for losing the drive to live’.
And even though Shao Tian stole money from the Wu family and bought the mansion for them, plus opened Rong Da, he actually put them under Cai Hong’s name.
The oh-so-generous female lead (ok seriously, they keep emphasizing how generous she is) decides to gift Rong Da back to Shao Tian. Her stepmom acts very pissed. Kathy Chow plays Cai Hong’s stepmom, and she’s stuck with such a small but such an obnoxious role – she’s normally so respected, especially in the Hong Kong community, I wonder how she got shafted so badly.
Cai Hong arrives at Shao Tian’s home to tell him that she is gifting him Rong Da. After initially refusing it, Shao Tian finally accepts it.
Before Cai Hong leaves, she reveals that she’s breaking up with him, and that they won’t get married.
Shao Tian pathetically looks at her and said, “You said, everything can have a fresh start” – well hello, you stole her father’s money and lied to her for a good two years.
Cai Hong leaves nonetheless, before Shao Tian asks if it’s Jiang Yu – she indirectly admits it – WHICH HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST INDICATOR SO FAR THAT SHE LIKES HIM because I’ve certainly seen no chemistry from her to him.
Cai Hong walks away and Shao Tian’s mom gives him a generic ‘mom-pat’ on the back that indirectly says ‘Oh son – you’ve really done goofed’.
General Lu goes to confront Lu Man in her involvement with her crimes – like kidnapping and being a suspect in the murder of Wu Hong Da. This was such a sad and heart-wrenching scene – I hate to see any women being abused by men.
She continues to act very baby-like and sweet to him, even after getting whipped by his belt and being compared to a dog. AT the end of this scene, he carries her onto the bed, and we can see a shot of unwillingness in her eyes.
The fei police chief round up the crew to tell them that the biggest suspect in the case right now is Lu Man.
Like literally, the only way that the fei police chief works is to tell the plaintiffs/victims of the case the different leads he has, the plaintiffs find their own ways to prosecute them. When has this fei police chief found any new evidence? None.
Meanwhile, Shao Tian gets someone that is close to Lu Man to find out where she was on the day of Wu Hong Da’s death.
This man is the same man that went on the trip with Shao Tian to deliver fabrics to the frontline of the war, and Shao Tian shielded him from a bomb and gave him money to help pay for medical expenses for his mom.
Meanwhile Cai Hong thanks Jiang Yu for helping her all along – even though he’s not a suspect in the murder case anymore, he goes out of his way to help her find the real murderer in the case. I mean, I know at this point she’s supposed to like him, but I really do not see it all – her acting towards him is so… platonic, for a lack of a better word. It just doesn’t seem she’s into him yet – even in the last few episodes.
She begs to get rid of the ‘vengeance’ and hate between the two families by asking Jiang Yu to allow her to be a servant for the Jiang family again so she can take care of Mama Jiang. Jiang Yu initially refuses, but he agrees since he wants to keep seeing her.
Meanwhile Shao Tian receives a call from his friend (to spy on Lu Man) to come meet him in the back alleys. But the spy had never shown up.
Shao Tian finds out from the police that his friend was murdered. It’s probably Lu Man.
Meanwhile Shao Tian finds out that Cai Hong is moving back to the Jiang family to become a servant under the excuse that her contract to sell her self was not expired yet.
Shao Tian gets very angry at Jiang Yu (even though this was all Cai Hong’s suggestion) and Cai Hong barely did anything to clear it up to say that she was actually the one that came up with the stupid idea to go there so she can get rid of all the vengeance between the two families.
Mama Jiang is so happy to see Cai Hong again – while Fei Fei is pissed. I completely side with Fei Fei – Cai Hong is so troublesome. I know the second female lead is supposed to be lesser-liked or even hated, but I actually like Fei Fei so much. Fei Fei’s wants are so reasonable for Cai Hong to leave the Jiang family alone. Why can’t she leave things be?
Her whole logic about removing the vengeance between the two families is so unnecessary and illogical. She said that she doesn’t want the hate to continue, but like honestly, other than Mama Jiang, the hate has pretty much ended. I mean no one even remembered that Papa Jiang had once owned Ling Long when Jiang Yu took it over again. Technically since Jiang Yu doesn’t hate her, it won’t get passed down to the next generations as she said. Pretty much only Mama Jiang hates her, and Fei Fei is right, she’s only getting Mama Jiang to like her only to be with Jiang Yu.
Cai Hong wins over Mama Jiang by being sweet to her and chatting with her everyday. Mama Jiang even compares (insultingly!) Cai Hong with Fei Fei saying that Cai Hong is like her adopted daughter.
One day Cai Hong decides to reveal that she’s Wu Hong Da’s daughter, and Mama Jiang goes crazy. Mama Jiang starts smashing expensive-looking vases and screaming, and Jiang Yu and Fei Fei asks Cai Hong to leave.
The servants ask her to leave and throw Cai Hong out.
So in order to catch Mama Jiang’s attention and to be all ‘self-sacrificial’ again she kneels in front of the Jiang mansion and continuously bows in front of the Jiang mansion. Why do female-leads always pull this thing where they needlessly harm themselves (and draw attention to themselves) just for the sake of something that they self-righteously think is right.
Mama Jiang is furious that Jiang Yu brought Cai Hong into their home. Jiang Yu finally mans up and owns up to his feelings towards Cai Hong and tells his mom that he loves her. Mama Jiang is understandably furious and orders Jiang Yu to go think about what he’s just said in front of the ancestors.
One of the servants lock Jiang Yu in under orders of Mama Jiang, which is so weird to me, because isn’t Jiang Yu the man of the house? Isn’t his authority higher than anybody else’s back then? I mean, that’s not even taking into account his age – he’s like an adult now, not a kid. Anyways, Jiang Yu sits in front of the ancestors and tells them that now he will bravely face his feelings and admit his love for Cai Hong.
Meanwhile Cai Hong is still doing the self-sacrificing thing by bowing outside and begging for forgiveness (you really think bringing harm to yourself will get you forgiveness?!). I seriously think that her need for forgiveness is so selfish and inconsiderate – some people just want to put their past behind them, and their decision not to forgive another person is solely up to them.
Anyways, Cai Hong realizes there is a huge fire at the Jiang mansion. Turns out this fire was planted by Lu Man, since she came up with this genius idea that Jiang Yu will immediately take the secret method out of its hiding spot when there is a fire.
The self-sacrificing Cai Hong runs inside of the burning mansion and rescues Mama Jiang, and while they were all outside, she finds out that Jiang Yu may be locked inside the ancestor room, which she runs in to try to save him.
Except Jiang Yu made it out ok. BUT, since Cai Hong went back in for him, Jiang Yu runs in (despite everyone else’s pleas for him to stay behind) to rescue Cai Hong. Cai Hong was unconscious from inhaling so much smoke, and she was holding onto Papa Jiang’s ancestral board as she was looking to protect it.
And somehow, even though this all happened in the night time, it becomes magically morning time and Jiang Yu takes Cai Hong to the hospital in a carriage.
Mama Jiang has a 180 degree change about Cai Hong (even though she literally said “I will never forgive you, GTFO” just 15 minutes back) and hopes for the best for her.
The doctors say that Cai Hong had suffered from too much smoke inhalation, and there was a lack of oxygen delivered to her brain for a long time. She is in a coma, and it is not known whether she will wake up or not.
Shao Tian and Cai Hong’s stepmom get extremely mad at Jiang Yu for Cai Hong’s condition, which is really damn stupid if you ask me.
No one asked for this fire to occur, and if anything, she decided to run back inside to try to save someone, not Jiang Yu. An accident had occurred, and even so, it is not Jiang Yu’s responsibility to protect Cai Hong 24/7, she’s an adult.
Meanwhile we are shown flashbacks by Lu Man which kinda gives us the back story to her past.
So turns out Lu Man was a princess and her mother was a consort of some kind, and during the revolution during the change of dynasties, her mother was murdered, and I guess the dress that she was wearing held some kind of significant meaning, and so that’s why Lu Man has been looking to either fix the dress, or recreate the dress.
Like… if you’re looking to fix it… or recreate the dress, that’s still not a strong enough reason to commit numerous murders and commit arson in order to recreate the dress.
I mean… why can’t you just buy the fabric? I feel like Jiang Yu would have sold it if she had asked nicely right?
And even if she has the secret method, she can elope with it, and not be General Lu’s escort anymore, but it’s not like she can use it anywhere right? The secret method would produce fabric so eye-catching and famous that she would be found no matter which county she went to, and using it would be an admission of guilt of committing all these crimes.
THIS IS THE WORSE VILLAINOUS/SOLVABLE MOTIVE IN THE HISTORY OF DRAMA-KIND.
Cai Hong is still in a coma and Jiang Yu has changed completely. He’s really worried about her, and even wished to give up his own life just so Cai Hong would wake up.
Fei Fei is in her yellow and blue dress (and I think it’s so cute, it reminds me of Snow White) and she tries to console Jiang Yu. She’s really mature about the accident/fire, and she comforts him that since Cai Hong is a good person, all the good karma that she’s accumulated will help her wake up.
Fei Fei is upset by Jiang Yu’s behaviour – she only wants him to be happy.
While strolling the hallway, she sees this crying child. She asks the child what’s wrong, and the child responds with a story:
Child: I miss my fish. I let him go.
Fei Fei: Well, if you loved the fish, why did you let him go?
Child: I had two fishes. One died today and the other one was very sad. My mom told me that if I let him go into the pond, he will be happy and he will survive. I wanted him to be happy and survive, so I let him go.
This was a turning moment for Fei Fei – she finally realized that she only wants Jiang Yu to be happy, and no matter his decision, as long as he’s happy, even if it’s Cai Hong, she will support him.
I really like Fei Fei. She’s so pretty, and she’s so mature. Even though second female leads are intentionally portrayed in a catty and bad way, I really love Fei Fei – she hasn’t done anything stupid or catty, and she’s always been so logical and reasonable.
2300 words later, we’re finally at the end of summarizing these three episodes. Episode 31 ends with Jiang Yu checking in on Cai Hong and seeing that she’s still in a coma.
I can’t wait to finish this drama since there are so many other good ones out so far, and since I know the ending for this won’t be very good.
The journey of flower sypnosis looks good, I think i’ll start watching that. Can’t wait to read your recaps lol :p

I think I would’ve liked this drama better if Fei Fei was the leading lady. As a viewer, I was more attracted to her than Cai Hong who I don’t get – she was just straight up annoying from the first scene. LOL Fei Fei and Jiang Yu had a better chemistry even though he didn’t look at her the way he looked at Cai Hong, switch the girls and you’ll get all the desired actions. It’s just too bad.
