Mei Niang nearly dies… from rain
So after De Fei commits suicide, the rebellion completely fails with her son and brother. The Emperor sends them a message that if the son goes back, the Emperor can let him live.

What a horrible son he is

Whatta d-bag
Well his uncle is kind of a dick because he decides to kill De Fei’s son. I guess in that situation, he was gonna die for treason anyways, and he was jealous that the son could live on, so he killed De Fei’s son as a revenge to the Emperor. But still, he’s his uncle, no less.
So this guy, Li Jing Feng, is a sorcerer, pretty much. He can read the stars and predict the future – historically he existed too. Well he predicted, rather accurately that the Tang Dynasty will be ruined by a woman with the surname Wu. This prediction has pitted all chancellors against her.
Long story short – they spent an episode on Mei Niang and the Emperor’s struggles with the prediction as well as Wei Fei purposely poisoning Li Jing Feng while leaving a letter (imitating his writing) that Wu RuYi is the true destroyer of the Tang Dynasty. Still, after this, the Emperor loves Mei Niang, and refuses to listen to chancellors, even though they beg him to kill Mei Niang.

Sprinkle a ‘love scene’ between the Emperor and MeiNiang to justify their love despite their lack of chemistry

I can’t even with the Emperor doing his hair like this… Eeee
Wei Fei tries to get her killed another time by hiding one of those voodoo dolls of the Emperor in her room, riding on the prediction that she will ruin the Tang Dynasty. Fortunately, Shu Fei has a spy there, and they find the doll in time before Wei Fei could accuse Mei Niang before anything happens. Doesn’t really add on the plot, but drama.
The last straw is when the Emperor gifts Mei Niang a beautiful stallion – she rides on it, and it’s fine. She invites Li Zhi, Zhi Nu to try the stallion out. Turns out Wei Fei put something in the horse’s meal, and he goes crazy when Zhi Nu rides on him.

Crazy headdress is crazy
MeiNiang hops on the back on the horse and tries to stop it, but the horse is crazy. They’re nearing a cliff so she stabs the horse. They just stop at the edge.
MeiNiang’s definitiveness and ability to kill was frowned upon (psh patriarchy) and the chancellors begged the Emperor even more to kill her. The Emperor didn’t want her to die, so he decided to stay away from her – and tried to make her hate him, by acting like a dick.
He summons Xu Hui to his office instead…
And sleeps with Xiao Chang…
Mei Niang doesn’t get to see the Emperor for a long time – and so she decides to wait for him every night at Cheng Qing Dian. Finally he arrives and tell her to show up tomorrow at his personal royal palace…
PSYCH. Xu Hui’s already there. This is all a big act to make Mei Niang broken hearted… by telling her that she doesn’t matter who’s behind the mask. They’re all the same to him. Well.. they are in a sense. He has literally over a hundred concubines.
She’s so upset that she decides to cry in the rain… to what seems like a few minutes… Could max be 15 minutes… but she faints.
And she falls into a deep coma-like sleep.
The doctors say that she might die. Because of the rain, and because her ‘heart-break’. I am so unimpressed. Why do women in the ancient times faint and get sick so easily? Like seriously she would die from being in the rain? I feel like they could’ve come up with a better plot like she tripped and fell into the pond and almost drowned or something.

Gets sick from taking care of her…
Meanwhile Xu Hui slowly goes crazy because MeiNiang is being more favoured than her…
These four episodes are more character development and filler episodes… these don’t really add to the plot… Four episodes summed up in 600-ish words.
Holy s*** this movie was my favorite chinese drama ever since I watched it.

The author of this seems 9 years old. Back in those days, there were no medical facilities and recovering was hard. Especially since Mei Niang was also in depression. Like the author of this review is so petty for no reason. Don’t watch the show if you don’t understand it.
